The Virtual Reality (VR) machines allows one to do anything in a virtual workspace. You can hook up to one of these and try one of the standard programs, or just call up whatever you need.
The VR machines themselves are large boxes that you sit inside. They require you to put on a special helmet, a pair of gloves, and IV cuffs that inject you with suggestibility drugs. Most of the time the programs can 'understand' your appearance, physical composition and equipment loadout fairly well, but in some cases they might have trouble 'translating' custom bodies and artifacts.
To connect to other players games the command is 'Run: establish connection <the player's name>'.
